KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) has been a rock for the fifth-ranked Kutztown Field Hockey defense as the center back. She led the defensive unit that allowed just one goal in three games last week, all victories for KU. Tuesday, she was announced as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week.

The Golden Bears (6-0 overall) are off to their best start to a season since 2007 when they won the first 10 games of that season.

KU has allowed just 10 shots on goal in six games this season, all wins. In a 4-0 victory at Coker last Saturday, Sept. 17, Gatehouse had two assists. Kutztown also defeated Adelphi 2-1 on Sept. 14, and Wingate 4-0 on Sept. 18. She is also a main part of the penalty corner unit.

The Maroon and Gold defensive unit has allowed just two goals all season, tied with West Chester for second-best in the conference, behind East Stroudsburg's one.

Gatehouse's five assists is a team-high and ranks third in the PSAC.

Kutztown has the week off before returning to competition next Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Mansfield at 4 p.m.
