EWING, N.J. -- The College of New Jersey shut out Kutztown University women's tennis, 9-0, in a non-conference match at the TCNJ Tennis Complex, Sunday.
The Lions, the 13th-ranked ranked Division III team in the ITA's Northeast Region, did not drop a set in singles and posted convincing results in doubles to improve to 9-2 on the season. The Golden Bears fell to 2-8.
TCNJ came out strong in doubles with an 8-0 victory at No. 2 and 8-2 wins at both No. 1 and No. 3.
The hosts continued to play well in singles, where no Bear got more than five games off their TCNJ counterpart.
Jessika Klo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) won games in each set in a 6-2, 6-3 loss at No. 6, while
Jess Marks (Allentown, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) took four games off Alexa Vasile at No. 3 in a 6-1, 6-3 defeat.
Sunday's match was played by NCAA Division III scoring rules with TCNJ at home. All three doubles matches counted in the final score, compared to the Division II model where teams play best-of-three for a team point.
Kutztown returns to PSAC East play Wednesday against Bloomsburg at the Keystone Courts. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
