Derr, Dunn Jr., honored as 2021-22 KU Senior Athletes of the Year

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University women's basketball standout Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and Kutztown wrestling All-American Andrew Dunn Jr. (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic), were honored as the 2021-22 Senior Athletes of the Year on Tuesday night at the Kutztown University athletic department's senior awards dinner, held at South Dining Hall. It was the first end of year celebration for KU athletics since 2019.

Derr is the sixth basketball student-athlete in program history to receive the award, first since Melissa McQuade in 2011. Ironically, Derr broke McQuade's program scoring mark this season. Dunn Jr., is the fifth wrestler in program history to receive the recognition and first since Matt Martoccio in 2016.

A native of Lititz, Derr closed her career as KU's all-time leading scorer with 1,820 points. She also holds program records for 3-pointers in a game (nine), season (89) and career (335) as well as KU's freshman scoring record with 409 points during the 2017-18 season. Derr is a four-time All-PSAC East selection, including three First Team nods. She was named a 2021-22 WBCA NCAA Division II Honorable Mention All-American, along with being selected as the Pete Nevins Women's Player of the Year by the Lehigh Valley College Basketball Media Organization.

From Bethlehem, Dunn Jr., achieved conference, regional and national success during his three seasons with the Maroon and Gold. He won the 2019 NCAA DII national championship at heavyweight and was the 2022 national runner-up. Dunn Jr., is a three-time All-American, three-time Super Region 1 champion, three-time All-PSAC honoree, two-time PSAC Athlete of the Year and two-time NWCA Super Region 1 Wrestler of the Year. He's tied for fourth all-time at KU with 22 pins and tied for 10th all-time with 69 career victories.
