KUTZTOWN, Pa. – It has been almost a decade, but Kutztown University women's tennis player, Catherine Maher (Shillington, Pa./Berks Catholic), ended the drought as the senior earned this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.
 
It is the first weekly award for a Golden Bear women's tennis player since March 24, 2014, when Chelsea Davis won her second in as many weeks.
 
At Moravian University last Saturday, Feb. 26, Maher, the top singles player in the lineup, won her top flight match against Julianne Cassady 6-2, 6-3. Maher and Claudia Makarski (Garfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) were narrowly defeated at No. 1 doubles 8-5.
 
Kutztown is back in action this Saturday, March 5, at Scranton at 1 p.m.
