KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Three-time All-American
Maddie Mohr (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) from the Kutztown University women's soccer team was selected as the athletic department's 2020-21 Female Senior Athlete of the Year, Monday.
Â
Mohr, a native of Elizabethtown, Pa., racked up 28 goals and 64 points over 66 games in just three seasons to rank among the program's career leaders in both categories.
Â
As a freshman in the fall of 2016, the talented midfielder immediately made a name for herself with team-highs of 11 goals, seven assists, 29 points and 60 shots as the Golden Bears went 20-5 and reached the NCAA Division II national semifinals for the first time in school history. Mohr collected a number of postseason accolades, including All-PSAC First Team, United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region First Team and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-America Third Team nods. She was also the team MVP, KU's 2016-17 Female Freshman of the Year and the 2016-17 LVAIAW Most Outstanding Soccer Athlete.
Â
Mohr's goal-scoring prowess continued in 2017 when she tallied 14 times in 21 games, tied for the third most goals in a season at KU. Once again, Mohr's excellence aided team success, as KU reached the PSAC semifinals and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. She was a repeat all-conference and all-region First Team pick, but this time, a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American.
Â
Mohr's all-around game grew in 2018 and though her offensive totals were a modest three goals, one assist and seven points in 20 games, her status as an elite player never wavered. After helping the Bears to a 14-4-2 record and another national tournament appearance, Mohr became a three-time All-PSAC and All-Atlantic Region First Team honoree along with a back-to-back All-America First Team recipient.
Â
Though she ranks fifth all-time in goals and seventh in points at KU, Mohr unfortunately never got the opportunity to close out the most decorated career in program history. An offseason knee injury suffered in 2019 forced Mohr to miss her senior season. She redshirted and rehabbed extensively to be ready for 2020, only to have that campaign wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
Mohr received a Chambliss Student Academic Achievement silver medal in the category of noteworthy achievements in athletics this past spring.
Â
Mohr achieved a number of firsts for the women's soccer program during her time on campus. She is the only player to attain All-America First Team status from United Soccer Coaches and the Golden Bears' first three-time all-region First Team selection. Mohr also became the first freshman to earn All-America honors with her D2CCA Third Team recognition back in 2016.
Â
Kutztown's Female Senior Athlete of the Year award has been presented annually since 1993. Mohr, a recent May, 2021, graduate with a Bachelor of Science in sport management, is the soccer program's fourth winner all-time joining Lauren Tatro (2005), Sam Costello (2015) and Alaina Curry (2017).
