KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown University women's tennis honored its 2019 seniors on Saturday, but a victory eluded the Golden Bears in their final home match of the season as Bloomsburg picked up a 7-0 PSAC East win.
Ashley Carter (Eynon, Pa./Valley View),
Shadimon Navarro (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and
Yasmeen Malik (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) competed on the Keystone Courts for the last time as Golden Bears. Carter and Navarro teamed up at third doubles, while Malik played first singles and doubles against the Huskies.
Malik and
Amanda Grebosky (Reisterstown, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) went back-and-forth with Bloomsburg's (4-1 PSAC East, 13-2) top pair of Cassidy Calimer and Vitoria Nery before falling 6-4. The Huskies, ranked 10th in the Atlantic Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), earned 6-0 and 6-1 victories at second and third doubles, respectively.
Sarah Grebosky (Reisterstown, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) won five games in the opening set of her fifth singles match against Cassie Wentz before suffering a 7-5, 6-1 defeat. KU's (1-3, 3-11)
Elyssa Tomczyk (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) also claimed five games in the first set against Isabella Sarquis at sixth singles, but fell 7-5, 6-2.
Kutztown caps its season with a match at East Stroudsburg next Friday at 3 p.m.
