EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- Seniors
Ashley Carter (Eynon, Pa./Valley View) and
Yasmeen Malik (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) collected victories as the Kutztown University women's tennis team shut out East Stroudsburg, 7-0, in a PSAC East road match to wrap up the 2018-19 season on Saturday.
Malik was one of five Golden Bears to post wins in both singles and doubles play along with
Amanda Grebosky (Reisterstown, Md./Mount de Sales Academy),
Catherine Maher (Shillington, Pa./Berks Catholic),
Alicia Pursell (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) and
Jillian Siefert (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown).
Kutztown (2-3 PSAC East, 4-11) convincingly swept doubles on the strength of 6-0 wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Malik and
Amanda Grebosky (Reisterstown, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) did the honors at No. 1 against ESU's (1-4, 5-9) Aubrianna Stetina and Amanda Jackson, while Pursell and Maher were equally impressive in a victory over Quinn McCluskey and Lauren Morrissey at No. 2.
The Maroon and Gold made it 3-for-3 in doubles with Siefert and Carter holding off Charity McLeod and Briana Young, 7-5, at No. 3. Siefert finished the season with a team-high six doubles wins, Carter was 4-3 and together the duo won four times in six matches.
Singles was all KU, too. The Golden Bears won the top five flights in straight sets and Siefert defeated Young, 8-0, in a pro set at No. 6.
Malik capped her collegiate career with a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over McCluskey at first singles. Pursell took down Stetina 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and
Amanda Grebosky (Reisterstown, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) breezed past Jackson 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3.
Fourth singles belonged to Maher, who topped Morrissey 6-4, 6-2, and
Sarah Grebosky (Reisterstown, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) beat McLeod 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 for her team-leading sixth singles win of the season.
Malik and Carter played in their final matches as Golden Bears during Saturday's win. They were honored with fellow senior
Shadimon Navarro (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) prior to KU's final home match against Bloomsburg last Saturday. Malik registered 24 combined wins during her career, Carter won 14 times, including 12 in doubles, and Navarro posted 13 combined victories.
