KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Junior
Renato Santos (Seixal, Portugal/Fernão Mendes Pinto) won his third singles match of the season, Monday, as the Kutztown University men's tennis team dropped its spring home opener, 6-1, to Post University on the Keystone Courts.
Santos outlasted Samuel Urban 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 to account for the Golden Bears' (0-7) lone point. The native of Seixal, Portugal snapped a two-match slide and improved to 3-5 in singles this spring.
While the Eagles (7-4) entered singles up a point after sweeping doubles, Kutztown got a strong performance from its No. 2 duo of
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and
Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) in a hard-fought 7-5 loss to Urban and Ivan Rajevac.
Nolan Perugini (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and Santos won three games at first doubles in a 6-3 defeat to Jonathan Compre and Nino Krneta.
Post went on to win five of six singles matches. Perugini forced Compres to win an extra game in the opening set at No. 1 in a 7-5, 6-1 setback, while Carl took seven games off Krneta in a 6-3, 6-4 loss.
Kutztown begins PSAC play on Saturday at West Chester. Match time is 1:30 p.m.
