HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The Kutztown University men's tennis team claimed victories in the top three flights of singles play, but it wasn't quite enough in a 4-3 loss to Michigan Tech at Hilton Head Island High School on Sunday.

Nolan Perugini (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) earned his team-leading third singles win 6-4, 6-2 at first singles over the Huskies' Mario Neto, while Renato Santos (Seixal, Portugal/Fernão Mendes Pinto) went to a tiebreaker in each set to down Nico Caviglia 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5) in second singles.

The Golden Bears' (0-3) Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) recovered from a tiebreaker set back in the opening set to rally past Ignacio Carbajosa 6-7 (3), 6-4, 10-7 at third singles.

Michigan Tech swept doubles to earn a point and secured the match with straight set victories at fourth, fifth and sixth singles.

Siddhesh Mahadeshwar topped Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4, Juan Felipe Chica defeated Logan Kemp (Hanover, Pa./South Western) 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Nathan Sodini bested Bobby Frankenfield (Telford, Pa./Souderton) 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 for the Huskies (1-3).

Sunday's match was part of PTR Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head Island. Kutztown will play three more matches on its spring break trip before returning to Pennsylvania. Next up for the Golden Bears is Quincy on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
