MANSFIELD, Pa. – Senior forward
Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) of the Kutztown University women's soccer team set a new Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record, and also became the program's all-time leader in career goals as she totaled six Saturday in a 10-0 win at Mansfield in a PSAC East game.
The Golden Bears (9-7 overall, 7-7 PSAC East) 10 goals is third-best at KU for a single game.
Zwiercan's day was also a career-high for her for goals in a single game and also tied a career-high with 14 goals in a season. She also tallied two assists on the day.
Gabby Kane (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) got the ball rolling with a goal just 1:54 in. Zwiercan then recorded three in-a-row before 10 minutes were even played and Kutztown was off and running.
Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) scored in the 11th minute before two more tallies from Zwiercan. Freshman
Ally Doyle's (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) first career goal in the 34th minute capped the first half scoring at eight goals.
Caelan Brooks (Bear, Del./Appoquinimink) also notched her first career goal to open the scoring in the second half, and Zwiercan capped the scoring in the 73rd minute.
Kutztown outshot Mansfield 32-7 overall and 23-3 on goal, and also held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Alexis Saladino (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) made three saves and earned the shutout victory.
Kutztown will be at home for its final two games of the regular season. It hosts Lock Haven in its next game on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m. at Keystone Field.
