Kutztown scores first four goals, gives head coach Erik Burstein 200th career victory

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team scored four first-half goals and defeated Lock Haven University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division game Wednesday afternoon at Keystone Field, earning head coach Erik Burstein his 200th career coaching victory.

Burstein (200-102-18) is in his 13th season at the helm at Kutztown, and is the program's winningest head coach (177-73-16).

The Golden Bears (10-7 overall, 8-7 PSAC East) featured four different goal scorers, including the first of the season for both Anna Hull (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Sarah Reidy (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle), and tallies from both Kristina Miller (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and Gabby Kane (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford), as the Maroon and Gold jumped out to the 4-0 lead just 39:31 into the contest.

Kutztown's 10th win is significant in that the program has won at least 10 games in each of the last 18 seasons.

Following a 10-0 win at Mansfield just four days prior, the Kutztown offense has been on fire, scoring 14 goals in just three halves up until halftime of the game with the Bald Eagles (3-11-2, 3-11-1). KU once again had an unbalanced advantage in total shots (22-6) and corner kicks (7-2).

Sophomore Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) contributed two assists to take over the team lead with five dishes on the season, which ranks as a tie for sixth-best in the PSAC. Rachel Rizzo (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) and Schyler Ackerman (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) also recorded assists for the Maroon and Gold, who have now won back-to-back games for the third time this year.

Hull got the scoring starter in the ninth minute when her shot took off from about 30 yards away and flew over a jumping Lock Haven goalie. Miller leaped inside the six-yard box to head home a corner by Argen for the second goal. Kane curled in a left-footed shot that snuck into the top right corner of the net, and Reidy volleyed a low-driving pass from Ackerman right inside the 18-yard box.

Kutztown will honor its eight seniors this Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m., against West Chester at Keystone Field in the season finale.
