KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The third-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team scored twice in the second half and used a strong defense to take down IUP 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Andre Reed Stadium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
Â
The No. 3 seed Golden Bears (12-5 overall, 7-3 PSAC), who already clinched a postseason berth, will now host their first PSAC Tournament game since 2015. They will welcome Mansfield to town as the No. 5 seed, a team they defeated 3-1 on Oct. 23.
Â
Senior
Gabby Hess (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) collected her first goal of the season in the third quarter to get KU on to the board after a scoreless first half for both teams. Sophomore
Izzy Radel (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) then gave KU some insurance with her fourth of the year in the fourth quarter.
Â
Kutztown's defense, featuring
Hadley Wiktor (Danville, Pa./Danville),
Leigh Roselli (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and
Juliana Borisow (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) helped senior goalie
Kerri Hanshaw (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), who finished with four saves, earn the shutout victory.
Â
The Maroon and Gold outshot the Crimson Hawks (9-9, 4-6) 10-5 overall and 8-4 on goal. They also held a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Â
Kutztown will remain home when it hosts Mansfield on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the PSAC Quarterfinals at 6 p.m. at Andre Reed Stadium.
