Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | by C.J. Hemerly, Assistant Sports Information Director

KU leads from start to finish in an 84-64 win at Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team was firing on all cylinders as it scored the game's first 10 points and led by double-digits for all but 0:50 after that early run in going on the road and winning at Mansfield University 84-64 Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action at Marion Decker Gymnasium.

Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) led the Golden Bears (11-7 overall, 5-5 PSAC) with a game-high 37 points. He added eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. Lee was a catalyst to a hot-shooting KU offensive performance, one which ended with Kutztown shooting 51.7-percent (31-of-60) from the floor, 47.6-percent (10-for-21) from three and 75-percent (12-for-16) from the free-throw line.

Josh Townsend (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) had his second double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points and 18 rebounds to go along with two blocks. Kiyon Hardy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Shipley School) and Facundo Arens (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Bahia Blanca) both just missed double-figures, adding nine points for the Maroon and Gold. The sophomore duo also shot at least 50-percent from the field, with Hardy going 4-for-8 and Arens 3-for-5.

Kutztown took control of the game from the opening tip, scoring the game's first 10 points in the opening 3:28 to force a Mountaineers (1-14, 0-10) timeout. The KU defense also was dialed in early, holding Mansfield to 0-for-its-first-6 shots from the floor.

Lee was unconscious from beyond the arc in the first half, connecting on 6-of-6 from deep, and ending the first 20 minutes 6-of-7 from three with his only miss being a three-quarter-court heave at the buzzer before halftime. The redshirt-senior is now just 27 points away from 2,000 for his career.

Hardy also had a quick start for KU, draining his first four attempts of the game. Kutztown finished the first half 59.4-percent overall and 61.5-percent from three, the second-highest percentage in the first half this season. It led by double-figures for the majority of the way and never allowed Mansfield to get into any kind of rhythm offensively.

Ricky Hicks (Coatesville, Pa./Polytech) had an all-around performance, just missing a double-double. The senior had seven points, eight rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes.

Freshman Kyree Generett (York, Pa./William Penn) tallied five points and shot 2-for-3 from the floor. He also had one rebound, one steal and one assist. Da'Quan Granberry (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) contributed two points to round out the scoring for KU. Akello Mosby (Philadelphia, Pa./Carver) and Austin Laughlin (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) each grabbed one rebound for the Golden Bears.

Kutztown returns home for another PSAC East contest against Millersville University Saturday, Jan. 19, at 8 p.m.
