KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team turned a halftime deficit into a double-digit victory over Millersville by outscoring the Marauders 51-36 in the second half, winning the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game 95-81 Wednesday night at Keystone Arena.
Trailing 45-44 heading to the locker room, the Golden Bears (18-5 overall, 14-5 PSAC) gave up four of the first six points in the first 2:07. But from that point on, KU turned on the switch on both ends of the floor.
To be able to stay within striking distance at halftime after Millersville shot 56.7 percent from the floor and 75.0 percent from beyond the arc was a win for KU, who shot 50.0 percent from the floor and 26.7 percent from three-point land.
Kutztown tied the game at 49-49, and then the teams went back-and-forth for the next couple of minutes until the score was knotted at 58-all. From there, KU began to separate itself using a 17-7 run over a span of 6:22 to go up 75-63 with 7:17 remaining. Millersville (9-17, 7-13) would not get any closer than seven points (75-68) when the Maroon and Gold quickly scored the next six points to keep their double-digit cushion for the remainder of the way.
The win is the third in a row for KU and the third in a five day period after playing Shippensburg on Monday, Feb. 12 and at Mansfield two days prior on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) and
Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy) both tallied double-doubles for the second consecutive game, after previously doing so against the Raiders. Ridgeway finished with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor, and dished out 10 assists to go along with five rebounds. Williams had 13 points, going 6-for-8 from the floor, and grabbed 14 rebounds along with tying a career-high with three blocks. It is the third time this season that a Golden Bear duo both recorded double-doubles in the same game.
Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) netted 20 points, giving KU two players that scored at least 20 points in the same game for the seventh time this season. Lee went 12-for-13 from the free-throw line, tying a career-high for free-throws made and percentage in a game. Lee stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with five rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. He now has at least one steal in 19 of the 23 games played this season.
Rafiq Marshall (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz (Cheyney)) also reached double-figures, scoring 16 points, connecting on 4-of-9 three-pointers, and had four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
