PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Fresh off an appearance in the men's doubles final at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships last weekend, senior
Nolan Perugini (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) of the Kutztown University men's tennis team won his regular season opening singles match to highlight a 4-1 KU defeat at the University of the Sciences Thursday afternoon.

Perugini won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles for the Golden Bears, who are competing just once on the road in the fall.

Perugini's PSAC doubles final partner
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) teamed up with him once again against the Devils Thursday. The duo dropped a close match 7-6 (8-6) at No. 1 doubles.

Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) and
Renato Santos (Seixal, Portugal/Fernão Mendes Pinto) won their match at No. 2 doubles 6-2, but with the new format this season, a team must win two-of-three doubles matches to earn a total point. KU fell at No. 3 doubles, earning USciences the point.

Carl and Kelly both won their first sets 6-3 and 6-4 respectively at No. 3 and No. 4 doubles, but the matches were not able to be finished. KU dropped No. 2 and No. 5 singles and had to forfeit at No. 6.

Kutztown has a home match next Saturday, Oct. 13 on Homecoming when it hosts Chestnut Hill College at 11 a.m. at Keystone Courts.
