KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
Nolan Perugini (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) went to a decisive tie-breaking set at No. 1 doubles, and then were able to pull off the win in highlighting the Kutztown University men's tennis team's 7-0 defeat to Chestnut Hill in its Fall regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Keystone Courts.
With the new doubles format, the team that wins two of the three matches receives one point.
The non-conference match was delayed two hours prior to its original start time due to rain.
Perugini fell just short of opening the season at 2-0 in singles.
Renato Santos (Seixal, Portugal/Fernão Mendes Pinto) won three games in each of his two sets at No. 2 singles.
Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) also had a combined six wins in his two sets at No. 4 singles, winning two in the first and four in the second.
Perugini and Carl were taken to a tie-breaking set at No. 1 doubles, but pulled out the win 7-6 (7-5).
Kutztown will be back in action when it plays in its Spring Break Trip next Spring from March 9-15 in Hilton Head, S.C.
