SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team won four singles matches to highlight its 5-2 win Wednesday over Shepherd University on the road in KU's regular-season finale.
 
Due to teams not able to finish doubles action, singles matches took the forefront Wednesday.
 
Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) won his second-straight match at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 4-1 (retired) win. At No. 4 singles, David Nunez Contreras (Madrid, Spain/Mater Immaculata) followed with another win, 6-4, 6-3.
 
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) won 12-of-15 games at No. 5 singles in a 6-3, 6-0 win, while Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) won by default at the final flight.
 
The duo of Carl and Kelly won KU's sole doubles match by default.
 
The Golden Bears look ahead to the postseason. They take on Edinboro University in the conference semifinals on Friday, April 21, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Bloomsburg University.
