CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's cross country team put together a top-10 finish Saturday morning, placing seventh out of 28 teams at the Bulldog Invitational on the campus of DeSales University.
For the first meet this season, freshman
Andrew Sulon (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) led the way for the Golden Bears, crossing the finish line in 22nd-place out of 268 overall runners with a time of 27:06.1. It was the fourth consecutive meet to open up the season that a freshman finished as the top overall runner for KU, as
Derek Barney (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) paced the Kutztown lineup for the first three meets.
Five other KU runners finished within the first 60 runners led by sophomore
Nick DeGennaro (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) in 45th (27:40.5).
DeGennaro was followed by
Chris Coates (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) in 52nd,
AJ Kilpatrick (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) at 55th, Barney at 58th and
Jared Luckanitz (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) finished in 60th.
Nate Burkhart (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) rounded out the KU scoring lineup, placing 88th.
Teagan Fortna (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West),
Derek Domsicz (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin),
Jason Leonardo (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional), and
Cesar Gonzalez (Greentown, Pa./Wallenpaupack Area) also ran for the Golden Bears on the 8k course.
Kutztown has a week off before it takes the course at the PSAC championships on Saturday, Oct. 21 at California University (PA).
