HERSHEY, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's golf team overcame a three-stroke deficit to win the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship on Sunday, the first title in program history.

The Golden Bears roared back to win the championship by two strokes over West Chester.

Team's surrounded the final scoreboard following Sunday's round, as players and coaches knew the championship would be decided by the thinnest of margins. When the final scores were posted, the Golden Bears erupted in excitement, knowing they achieved something that no other KU women's golf team had done before (VIDEO).

KU improved by 10 strokes to shoot a school-record-tying 314 Sunday, tied for the best par-71 score in school history. For the weekend, KU shot a 638, breaking the school's par-71 record by four strokes.

The win clinches Kutztown a spot in the NCAA Regional Championship in the spring, a first for the program.

One of the most significant reasons KU was able to complete the comeback was the play of senior Caity Leppert (Layton, N.J./Kittatinny Regional). After shooting an 84 Saturday, Leppert posted a team-best seven-stroke improvement with a 77 Sunday. She tied for 10th place in the field and finished third on the team.

Shannon Weber (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown Area (Millersville)) improved by four strokes and shot a 75 on Sunday to finish in second place with a 154. Her 75 ties the school's par-71 record and her 154 broke the record by one stroke.

Freshman Jillian Jones (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) shot matching 80s this weekend to finish in ninth place with a 160.

Junior Rachel Tarnopoll (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) tied for 15th with a 163, capped with an 82 Sunday. Rebecca Graham (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) rounded out the winning group this weekend, improving by four strokes to shoot an 83 Sunday and a 170 for the weekend.

Mercyhurst finished in third place with a 652, Millersville was fourth with a 653 and Gannon finished fifth with a 654.
