EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University wrestling team won eight of 10 bouts Tuesday night to close its regular season with a 29-6 win at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
 
The Golden Bears closed their season with a 12-5 dual meet record, their 12th straight season with double-digit wins.
 
Lightweights Austin Petril (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby (Ursinus)) and Zach Ulerick (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area) both won at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively. Petril won by a 10-4 decision. The sophomore has won 15 matches this year and 12 of his last 14 heading into regionals in two weeks.
 
Ulerick didn't allow a point in a 12-0 major decision at 133, and Joe Esposito (Sewell, N.J./Saint Augustine Prep) won 6-1 at 149.
 
Fifth-ranked Matt Martoccio (Kintnersville, Pa./Council Rock South (Lock Haven)) earned a 12-2 major decision at 157. The returning All-American is 22-3 this year with just one loss to Division II competition.
 
Freshman James Meyer (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) won an 8-3 decision at 165, Joe Balboni (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton (Old Dominion)) picked up a 25-10 tech. fall at 174 in 6:41, and Collin Schildt (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) won a 4-1 decision at 184 to give KU a 25-3 lead heading into the final two bouts.
 
Nick Mort (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield Area) subbed in at 197 and earned a 10-2 major decision. To close the night, Ryan Appleby (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) held his own in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of nationally-ranked Tyson Searer of ESU.
 
Kutztown now prepares for its most important weekend of the season, the NCAA Super Region I Championships on Feb. 26-27 at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pa.
