All-American Retter, Region Champ Gimbor headline seven KU All-PSAC wrestlers

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Kutztown University wrestling team saw seven student-athletes named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams, as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon.

Four grapplers were named Second Team All-PSAC, including 133-pound Javien DeLeon (Allentown, Pa./Liberty), 141-pound Joey Ortega (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson), 174-pound Dalton Gimbor (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) and 285-pound Freddie Retter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown). Third Team All-PSAC selections included 125-pound Nic Allison (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County), 184-pound Cole Casilio (Wilcox, Pa./Johnsonburg) and 197-pound Wayne McIntyre (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North).

Retter, who was the lone Golden Bear to collect All-American honors at 285 pounds at March's NCAA DII Championships, battled his way to a 2-1 regular season record and a spot in the finals of the Super Region 1 Championships. After dropping a quarterfinal matchup to the nation's fourth-ranked grappler on the big stage, he wrestled back to a fifth-place finish for his second straight podium spot in his senior campaign. Retter gets named to the Second Team for the second straight season, earning the honor last year after a similarly successful campaign.

Gimbor topped the podium at 174 pounds at the Super Region 1 Championships, a cherry on top of his 19-3 regular season campaign that saw the Bernville, Pa., native capture five conference victories and avenge his lone loss in the Super Region Final against fifth-ranked Ty Morrison of Pitt-Johnstown. His 22-5 total record is the best mark of his five-year career, while he finished the 2025-26 season with six technical falls and four pins. Gimbor has been named to an All-PSAC team in each of his four seasons at KU, with this being his second such Second Team nod.

DeLeon had one of his best seasons in his redshirt junior campaign at 133 pounds, finishing fourth at Super Regionals while entering the rankings at No. 14 in his weight class in the November polls. The Allentown, Pa., native collected his first two first-place tournament finishes of his career, while he had a career best nine pins in his stellar, 22-win campaign. This year's Second Team All-PSAC honor is his second such honor of his career.

Ortega rode a strong run of success to pull a good draw at Super Regionals and post a pair of sudden victory decisions to finish third and clinch his first trip to nationals and his first All-PSAC selection. The sophomore 141-pounder topped a pair of top-15 grapplers on the year, and his 13-8 record gives him a lot to look forward to in his junior campaign.

All of Allison (18-9), Casilio (18-4) and McIntyre (21-5) reached the national stage after winning their respective consolation finals at Super Regionals. Allison's dominance was a good sight to see in a challenging 125-pound weight class, especially as he matched a team high five conference victories. Casilio played a strong role after transferring in and competing in a new weight class, while McIntyre continued to impress in his redshirt sophomore season.

As for the major award winners, Gannon's Dorian Crosby (285 lbs.) claimed Athlete of the Year after a national championship performance, while his coach, Tom Boyd, collected Coach of the Year honors. First Team All-PSAC 174-pound Ty Morrison of Pitt-Johnstown collected Freshman of the Year honors.

The Golden Bears (6-4, 4-2 PSAC) finished the year off as the No. 21 squad in the March Poll from the National Wrestling Coaches Association, while Gimbor and Retter were the lone wrestlers to be ranked in the final individual polls, each being ranked fifth in their respective weight classes.

Kutztown looks to remain among the top of the team standings, a tall task to accomplish given the impending retirement of 25th-year head wrestling coach Robert Fisher and the departure of a number of accomplished upperclassmen. A new coach will look to work with a clean slate and build on the recent success in the 2026-27 season.
