KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's and women's basketball teams will head west for one final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover road game on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Seton Hill. The men tipoff at 3 p.m. following the conclusion of the women's contest, which is set to begin at 1 p.m.
The Kutztown men (6-1, 3-1 PSAC) are coming off its first loss of the season last Sunday, Dec. 4 at No. 17 Indiana, which came courtesy of a go-ahead basket with 0.1 seconds remaining. The heartbreaker dropped the Golden Bears to No. 16 in the national rankings and a tie for third in the PSAC East. At 6-0, KU was off to its best start since starting 14-0 in 2009-10.
With five players averaging double-figures, Kutztown is one of the top offensive teams in the PSAC. The Maroon and Gold lead the league in field goal percentage (49.3) and are second in both points per game (86.1) and 3-point percentage (39.7). KU is also taking care of the ball as it is atop of the conference in turnover margin (+7.7), thanks in large part to a league-leading 9.3 steals per game, and assist/turnover ratio (1.68). The Golden Bears are second in the league in both assists per game (18.4) and turnover average (11.0).
The Seton Hill men (5-3, 2-2) are also coming off a loss, as they fell to unbeaten Shippensburg, 69-76, last Sunday. That snapped a three-game winning streak for the Griffins, who are in a tie for third in the PSAC West. Like Kutztown, SHU is also in the top-five of the conference in both field goal percentage (46.7) and assists per game (17.5), while also pacing the league in blocks per game (5.9).
The Kutztown women (2-7, 1-3) are looking to snap a two-game skid, which includes a 42-61 setback against Bowie State on Wednesday, Dec. 7. The Maroon and Gold played well out west last weekend, as they defeated Pitt-Johnstown, 81-77, and battled against Indiana before falling 67-75. KU is just one game behind co-leaders East Stroudsburg and West Chester in the PSAC East standings.
The Seton Hill women (5-3, 3-1) are also one game back in their division after snapping a two-game losing streak with a 70-67 overtime triumph over Shippensburg last Sunday. The Griffins pace the PSAC in 3-pointers per game (9.3) and are third in 3-point percentage (34.7), which helps them rank fourth in points per game (73.1).
The contest should be a well-played one, as both teams are in the top half of the PSAC in assists per game, turnover average, turnover margin and assist/turnover ratio.
Both the Kutztown women and men are back on the road following this weekend's contests. The women stay in state for a 1 p.m. matchup at Chestnut Hill on Saturday, Dec. 17, while the men travel out of state to Bowie State for a 3 p.m. tip on Sunday, Dec. 18.
