HTML Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team won all nine matches to open its spring break trip in Hilton Head with a 9-0 win over The Catholic University of America on Sunday evening.
KU opened with three wins in doubles play. Senior
Varun Desai teamed with freshman
Joan Oliver Perez for an 8-3 win at the top flight of doubles. The second flight of
Matt Maguire and
Gabriel Nogara Souza, and the third flight of
Ken Beebe and
Rich Lichtenwalner both swept their opponents with 8-0 wins.
In singles play, Desai notched his 95th combined career victory with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Maguire and
Filip Lagerqvist swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Perez and Lichtenwalner both won 6-1, 6-3, and Souza turned in a 6-2, 6-1 win.
The Golden Bears return to action on Monday, March 9 to face the University of Charleston at 4 p.m.
