KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play in style on Friday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Millersville University in KU's home-opener for the spring season at Keystone Courts.
 
Matt Maguire and Rich Lichtenwalner set the tempo at the top flight of the doubles. They were the final of three doubles matches to finish on Friday, but the Golden Bear duo was sharp during late games to take down Millersville's top duo 8-6.
 
Senior duo Varun Desai and Ken Beebe moved to 8-1 in doubles this year with an 8-1 win in their second match at No. 2 doubles of the season. Joan Oliver Perez and Indi Reverte also won their doubles match by an 8-6 score.
 
Five of the six doubles competitors for Kutztown competed in singles action. Desai, Maguire, Oliver Perez and Reverte all won in straight sets at the top four flights. Lichtenwalner won his first set 6-4 at No. 5 singles, dropped his second set 3-6, but rallied with a 10-7 win. Filip Lagerqvist rounded out singles action with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the sixth flight.
 
Kutztown returns to action on Sunday, March 29 in PSAC East action at West Chester University beginning at 1 p.m.
