Box ScoreSPARKILL, N.Y. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team fell 6-0 to Saint Thomas Aquinas College in a rain-shortened match on Friday as the Golden Bears wrapped up their fall season.
Despite a lopsided final score, the Maroon and Gold played several very tight matchups. In doubles action,
Joan Oliver Perez (Andratx, Spain/IES Baltasar Porcel) and
Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) fell 8-5, and
Rich Lichtenwalner (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and
David Nunez Contreras (Madrid, Spain/Mater Immaculata) fell 8-3.
Singles play was also very competitive, however, four KU players were defeated in straight sets. Perez and Souza each were defeated 6-3, 6-4. Lichtenwalner lost 6-2, 6-2, and
Filip Lagerqvist (Sundsvall, Sweden/Skvaderns Gymnasieskola) fell 6-3, 6-2.
The fifth singles match was interrupted by rain and the match was eventually ended.
Kutztown (0-1) will return to action in 2016 with its first match on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 4:30 p.m. held indoors at Lehigh University.
