Kutztown 8, Caldwell 1 (HTML Box Score) KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's tennis team won five of six singles and all three doubles matches to cruise to a 8-1 win over Caldwell College at the Keystone Courts on Thursday afternoon. It was Kutztown's first home match of the spring season.
The top two flights of singles have been nearly identical for the last two seasons, and have been very successful.
Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley) and
Varun Desai (Mumbai, India/K.C. College) continued their winning ways atop the roster with a pair of singles wins while teaming for a doubles win. Both players won in straight sets without allowing more than three points in a set, and pulled out an 8-6 win in doubles.
Rich Lichtenwalner (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and Matthew Maguire won their third straight match as a doubles pair with a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles. Lichtenwalner also won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
Patricio Hernandez (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Vista Hermosa) only allowed one point in his straight set win at No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-1), as
Ben Nace (Spring Grove, Pa./Delone Catholic)'s perfect match at No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-0) capped the singles wins for KU. Nace was also perfect in doubles, as he teamed with
Ken Beebe (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett) for a 8-0 win.
The Golden Bears return to action on Sunday, April 6 to take on Millersville University on the road at 2 p.m. for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match.
