KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The ninth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team fell to Indiana University of Pennsylvania 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game at University Field.

Kutztown (4-4, 1-1 PSAC) scored the opening goal of the game when Jamie Koenig (Springtown, PA/Palisades) and Erin Reynolds (York, PA/Central York) displayed beautiful give-and-go passing. Reynolds received a pass from Koenig and pushed it into the circle for it to be deflected by Megan Tiwold (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) in the 17th minute for her second goal of the season.

Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) scored second for KU in the 20th minute for her third of the season. Behm's tenacity on the offensive line has moved her right behind Erin Danner (Marysville, PA/Susquenita) in goals this season.

Despite KU's 2-0 lead at halftime, the Crimson Hawks relentless offense put pressure on the Golden Bears defense instantly in the second half. Kate Bruce scored twice for Indiana (PA) to tie the game 2-2. In the 58th minute, Kendra Blantz drove the ball into the circle and slipped it past Kutztown's goalkeeper to give the Crimson Hawks the 3-2 advantage.

Indiana (PA) put one more goal in the cage in the 69th minute. Ericka Griffith flicked the ball over the KU goalie to secure the victory.

KU's defense played an outstanding game. Even though the Crimson Hawks fired 16 shots, KU held them to a scoreless first half. Jess Strohecker (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) and Rayann Fink (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) each walked away with one defensive save, and Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) recorded 14 saves.

Kutztown looks to improve its record in the PSAC when it travels to Mercyhurst University on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m. to face the Lakers for the second time this season.
