PSAC Release
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior
Ridhima Borooah (Guwahati-Assam, India/Modern School; Barakhamba Road; New Delhi) of the Kutztown University women's tennis team closed out her career with the top honor from the conference on Friday afternoon as she was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Athlete of the Year.
Borooah earned All-PSAC honors in singles play along with sophomore
Hannah Pipkin (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) for the Golden Bears. The duo also earned All-PSAC recognition in doubles play.
Borooah, the PSAC Team Women's Tennis Champion Scholar, capped the season with an 11-4 overall record in singles competition and an 11-7 doubles record with
Pipkin. The former PSAC Freshman of the Year (2010) is a repeat singles and doubles all-conference selection from a year ago. The senior helped her team clinch the program's first PSAC East Division title in school history, as the team posted a perfect 6-0-league record.
“Ridhima played a huge role in the team exceeding its expectations this season,” head coach
Suresh Ramamurthi said. “She motivated the team by example and was extremely self-motivated, and that rubbed off onto the rest of her teammates. She often reached out to her teammates giving them tips and tactics that were very useful and instrumental to the team having such a successful season.”
Borooah has been with the team since her freshman year and has made a consistent impact on the team. She has 69 combined career wins with 33 in singles action and 36 in doubles.
Pipkin went 8-7 in singles play this season including a 4-1 mark in PSAC play. She was 7-3 at the No. 2 slot of singles play and returns to the Golden Bears next season as a prime candidate for the top flight in both singles and doubles play.
“Hannah had to work a little more than most due to a heavy class load within her major,” Ramamurthi said. “She made it up early in the morning to come and work out, and she is the cement that holds the team together.”
Pipkin is one of eight players returning next season as the team will have three juniors and a senior moving forward.
