HTML Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – With the match tied with just one singles match left to play, Chelsea Davis (Spring City, Pa./Spring-Ford) of the Kutztown University women's tennis team won a three-set match at No. 6 singles to give Kutztown a 5-4 team victory over West Chester University Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at West Chester's South Campus Tennis Courts.

In a match that lasted just under five hours, the Golden Bears (4-6, 2-1 PSAC) opened Saturday's play by sweeping the three doubles matches and the top flight of singles play. The Golden Rams (9-7, 1-1) won the next four singles matches to bring the team score to 4-4, but Davis' individual victory ended West Chester's five-match winning streak.

Ridhima Borooah (Guwahati-Assam, India/Modern School; Barakhamba Road; New Delhi) and Hannah Pipkin (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield), along with Emily Troast (/) and Cynthia Good (Montrose, Pa./Elk Lake) each won their second straight match in doubles play. Both scores were by 8-4 finals as Kutztown's third doubles team of Rachel Grula (Drums, PA/Hazleton Area) and Tori Zander (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) picked up an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

Borooah improved her singles record to 8-2 with a 6-0, 6-2 dismantling of West Chester's top seed in Brittany Counts. It gave KU a 4-0 lead in the match, needing just one more win to pick up the team victory.

West Chester responded by winning the next four singles matches, placing the pressure on No. 6 Nicole Nardi. Kutztown's Davis earned a tiebreaking 7-6 win in set one, was swept in the second set, but rose to a 6-2 win in the third set to pick up the win.

Kutztown returns to action on Thursday, April 4 when it hosts Cheyney University at the Keystone Tennis Courts beginning at 3:30 p.m.
