HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Kutztown University women's tennis seniors
Ridhima Borooah (Guwahati-Assam, India/Modern School; Barakhamba Road; New Delhi) and
Rachel Grula (Drums, PA/Hazleton Area) extended their winning streaks Friday morning as the Golden Bears defeated Converse College 5-4. Kutztown fell in the nightcap with an 8-1 setback to the University of Nebraska Omaha on the teams' final day of its spring break trip in Hilton Head Island.
The Golden Bears (2-6) won four of the six matches in singles play to guide them to a 5-4 victory against Converse. All four wins were in straight sets which allowed Kutztown to seal the victory with one win in doubles play.
Borooah won her fourth consecutive singles match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kasey Anderson. Noteably, Borooah has not lost four or more games in a set in seven of her eight latest victories.
Grula picked up her second straight victory of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Converse's Marisa Esformes. Grula also won in doubles play with her partner
Chelsea Davis (Spring City, Pa./Spring-Ford), 8-1, for the second consecutive match.
Davis used a 6-0 opening set win over Shae Lyles to spark her to a 6-4 second set win and the match. Also winning in singles play for Kutztown was
Emily Troast (/) (6-4, 7-5).
Grula was Kutztown's lone winner in its 8-1 setback to Nebraska Omaha. She won the first set 6-3, dropped the second 5-7, but picked it up in the third set 10-3 to close her spring break trip on a three-match winning streak.
The Golden Bears return to action on March 26 when they travel to Shippensburg University for a conference dual match beginning at 2 p.m.
