WINGATE, N.C. – Wingate overpowered Kutztown University with nine runs in the first three innings before taking a 13-3 win over the Golden Bears in non-conference action.

After an RBI single by Eric Sierra in the first, Michael Benitez and Thomas Spitz each had two-run singles in the second to put the Bulldogs on top 5-0 after two innings of play.

KU cut into the lead in the top of the third.  Brandon Martinez (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) walked with two outs and moved to second when Brett Hauck (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) reached on an error.  Kyle Stoudt (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) followed with an RBI double to left to drive in Martinez to trim the deficit to 5-1.

Wingate broke the game open with a four-run third inning.  Brad Cherry singled through the left side to drive in a pair of runs in the inning.  Josh Clark smacked a two-run homer to leftfield in the fourth to make it 11-1.

Martinez ignited another two out rally in the fifth with a base hit to left.  Hauck's single to left center put runners on the corners.  Stoudt drove in Martinez with a single up the middle.  A throwing error by the Bulldogs kept the inning alive and loaded the bases for Travis Kreitz (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown).  Kreitz was hit by a pitch, bringing Hauck home.

Wingate capped the scoring with single runs in the seventh and eighth.

Stoudt continued his hot hitting on the weekend with a 2-for-3 effort and two runs batted in.  Martinez reached base in all four of his plate appearances with a two hits and two walks.  He scored twice.  John Dockins (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson (Frederick CC)) reached base twice via a hit and a walk.
