KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Elizabeth Metz (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor),
Jessica Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern), and
Caitlin Davies (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) all qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in February as the Kutztown University women's swimming squad hosted LIU Post for its home-opener on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Pool, but ultimately fell to the Pioneers 160-90.
Metz and Bleiler were both double winners for the Golden Bears (1-2) in the pool. Bleiler remained undefeated this season in the 100-fly, posting a qualifying time of 1:00.86. She also locked down the 200-fly in 2:16.44, besting the qualifying time by 1.48 seconds. Metz dominated the 1650-freestyle by more than 25 seconds with a time of 18:12.44, while also grabbing the crown in the 500-freestyle 5:20.97, qualifying her in both events.
Davies earned three silvers on the day, placing second in the 50-, 100-, and 200-freestyles. Her 2:00.35 time in the 200-freestyle qualifies her for PSACs.
Sophomore
Samantha Scialpi (West Pittston, Pa./Pittston) also had a day for herself, posting career-best times in both the 100- and 200-backstroke. Her times of 1:06.15 and 2:25.09 were both good enough for third place against the Pioneers.
Kutztown will return to the lanes next weekend to host the annual Golden Bear Invite, starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 and at 10 a.m. on Nov. 16.
