KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team defeated Alderson-Broaddus University 4-0 in a non-conference matchup Monday afternoon at Keystone Field, led by freshman
Alaina Curry (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) scoring the first three goals of the game for her first career hat-trick.
The Golden Bears (10-5) got out to an early lead over the Battlers (6-10-2) when
Megan Frailer (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) took a corner kick in the fourth minute of action. The Battler defense was unsuccessful in deflecting the ball outside of the box, and Curry took advantage of the rebounded ball to score the first goal for KU.
In the 15th minute, Frailer took another corner kick, this time earning the assist as Curry made contact with the ball again, heading in the second goal for KU.
In the 32nd minute, Alderson-Broaddus took its first shot of the game and came close to scoring when Brittany Minor sent a ball around KU goalkeeper
Alina Rakiewicz (Denver, PA/Cocalico) who had come out of goal. The ball hit the post, however, and the two teams went to halftime with the Golden Bears leading 2-0.
Kutztown opened the second half of play with a déjà vu effect, when Frailer took another corner kick in the 57th minute of play, assisting Curry in scoring the third goal for KU off of another header.
In the following four minutes, Katelynn Jaxheimer crossed the ball directly in front of the goal from the right side of the field, where Frailer took the shot and scored the fourth and final goal for KU.
The Battlers only recorded a single shot in the second half as well, and finished the game with two shots to Kutztown's 13.
Curry led the KU offense with perfect efficiency, scoring on all three of her shots, while
Sam Costello (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) recorded five shots, four of which were on goal.
The Golden Bears return to action when they travel to Gannon University on Wednesday, Oct. 30, for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
