KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team fell to ninth-ranked California University (PA) 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Keystone Field in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup.
Despite the Vulcans (11-2-1, 11-1-0 PSAC) raining down a series of corner kicks in the opening of the first half, the Golden Bears (8-5, 8-5) halted all plays before California (PA) could tally a shot.
Sam Costello (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) notched two shots before the Vulcans were finally able to overcome the Golden Bear defense and score the first goal in the 33rd minute. In the following four minutes, California (PA) scored again when Erin Hogan sent a free kick to assist Stephanie Thompson in scoring the second goal from just outside the goal box.
Neither team was successful in taking another shot in the first half, and the two teams went into halftime with the Vulcans leading 2-0.
Logan Kramer (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor (Arkansas State)) had two shots and one penalty kick in the second half to give KU the lead in shots with five, but California (PA) proved to be more efficient in scoring on two of their four shots.
The Golden Bears return to action Tuesday, Oct. 22, when they host Edinboro University for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
