Golden Bears Clip No. 12 IUP

Box Score

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Kutztown University (6-5, 4-3) defeated Indiana (Pa.) (10-3, 5-2) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover match up, 68-62. IUP entered the match ranked 12th in the country by Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

Golden Bears playing in their second game in as many nights depended on a quality team performance. KU entered the game with only eight players dressed and received contributions from the entire roster.   All eight active Golden Bears scored in the contest behind Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional)'s team-high 18 points. Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) contributed seven points and five assists despite facing intensive IUP defensive pressure the entire night.

KU attacked the basket and was able to get IUP in some early foul trouble. Most importantly the Golden Bears were able to keep Sarah Pastorek off the floor. Pastorek coming off her season-high 25 points against East Stroudsburg was limited to a scoreless 15 minutes. Pastorek captured her fourth foul of the game less than two minutes into the second half and did not return until 5:01 mark.

Kutztown Head Coach Janet Malouf's bunch led the entire game with the exception of two first half ties. IUP's Marita Mathe hit a deep three with 6:05 left to give IUP a slight one point advantage 53-52. Mathe led the way for the Crimson Hawks with 25 points. However, it was not enough to stop the Golden Bear offense who answered back the next possession with Tanejha Smith (Allentown, PA/William Allen) knocking down two free throws to put the Golden Bears ahead to stay.

Arianna Apostolopoulos (Yonkers, NY/Ursuline) iced the KU victory with a pair of made free throws making it a two possession game with 25 seconds remaining.

Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) added 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.  Avery Hodgson (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) scored 10 points off the bench tonight serving some offensive balance with Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) who provided a defensive surge with five steals, 10 rebounds, and a blocked shot.  Hodgson wasn't alone off the bench as Smith chipped in six points and Aly York (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) had three points in the victory.

The Lady Golden Bears return to the hardwood on Friday January 11, 2013 at Edinboro University. The match will be one of two remaining PSAC crossover matchups for KU. Crossover play for Kutztown will conclude the following the night at Slippery Rock.
