Following historic season, Malouf captures first KU Female Coach of the Year honor

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Last March, the Kutztown women's basketball team made history by winning its first ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title. For her success in leading the program last winter, head coach Janet Malouf was voted the 2024-25 Dr. Dorothy Moyer KU Women's Coach of the Year, the first of her career, announced Friday.

The Golden Bears (22-12 overall, 14-7 PSAC) earned the top seed from the East Division in the PSAC Tournament and collected victories over West Chester in the quarterfinal round, No. 16 Gannon in the semifinals, and then took down host Edinboro in the final.

Malouf led a resurgence in the middle of the season that propelled her team to the postseason run. On Jan. 13, Kutztown was 6-10 overall and 2-6 in the conference. But a program-record, 12-game win streak sent KU to the top of the division standings and its momentum carried into the PSAC Tournament.

The Maroon and Gold earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for just the third time in program history.

The 22 wins is the most since 2021-22 and the second-highest in her 30 seasons at the helm.

Malouf coached Kutztown's first PSAC East Athlete of the Year in Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth), who was also a First Team All-Atlantic Region player.

The award dates back to 1993. From 1987-92 a combined department Coach of the Year was recognized. The award recognizes the coach of a KU women's varsity sport for leading their team to success in a given academic year and is voted upon by athletic department administration, coaches and support staff.
