KUTZTOWN, Pa. – East Stroudsburg used the first inning gain leads in a pair of games against the Kutztown University baseball team.  KU climbed its way back into both games, but fell 5-4 and 11-7 Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action at North Campus Field.

The Golden Bears (23-11 overall, 8-6 PSAC East) allowed three runs to the Warriors (22-14, 6-8) in the first inning of both games, but was able to turn in some clutch at-bats down the stretch to narrow both ESU leads to one.  KU, however, was unable to get over the hump and take a lead in either game.

Senior right hander Dominick Ruscitti (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville-Newbaugh/Dominican College) (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville-Newbaugh) got the start for KU in the opener.  He threw six innings on the mound but was plagued by a pair of one-out ESU hits in the opening inning.  Brian Ernst put ESU on the board with an RBI single through the right side, and was followed by a Robert Patete two-run homer to left field to give ESU the early advantage.

Kutztown tacked on runs in the third and fourth innings to bring the game to 3-2.  Senior shortstop Cody Montz (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Schuylkill Haven) (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Schuylkill Haven) knocked in Kyle Stoudt (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) in the third.  Matt Albaugh (Hatfield, PA/North Penn)'s leadoff triple in the fourth set him up to score off an RBI single to center field by Brad Stoudt (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights).

ESU responded with two runs in the top of the fifth off a pair of two-out RBI singles.

The game went scoreless going into the bottom of the seventh after sophomore Colin Holmes (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) relieved Ruscitti in the top half of the inning and sat down the Warriors in order with two strikeouts.

Kyle Stoudt (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) led off the inning with a single through the right side.  Andrew Otterberg (Wall Township, N.J./Wall Township) (Wall Township, NJ/Wall Township) was hit by a pitch in a pinch-hit situation the next at-bat as the pair of runners would eventually move into scoring position on a passed ball.  Montz drove in Kyle Stoudt (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) to bring the tying run to the plate.  Junior Brett Hauck (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) (Kutztown, Pa/Kutztown) connected on one of his career-high three hits on the afternoon with an RBI single to right center field.  However, the potential comeback would come to an end with an ensuing groundball double play to end the game.

Brad Stoudt (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) and Kyle Stoudt (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) each went 2-for-3 at the plate in the opener.

Ernst went 3-for-3 for the Warriors as Keith Moyer picked up his fourth win of the season on the mound.

Shayne Houck (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) nearly rallied his fellow KU troops to a significant comeback victory in the second game of the twin bill.  Down 8-2 in the fourth, ESU walked the bases loaded, bringing KU's top hitter in Houck to the plate.  After working ESU's Keith Moyer to a full count, Houck saw a fastball he liked a drove a grand slam over the left field fence.

Montz scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 8-7, but it was as close as the Golden Bears would get.

ESU scored nine of their 11 runs in the fourth and sixth innings.  Up 3-2 in the fourth, the Warriors scored five runs on as many hits to put KU in a difficult situation.  After the five-run KU rally brought the game to one, ESU responded with three runs in the sixth inning off just one hit to put the game out of reach.

East Stroudsburg again capitalized with three runs in the opening inning of the nightcap.  Junior Damon Valloreo (Vincentown, N.J./Burlington CCC) (Vincentown, NJ/Senaca) started on the hill for KU and three runs on as many hits in the first inning.

Todd Rubendall (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) and Brad Stoudt (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) hit RBI singles for KU in the second and fourth innings, respectively.  Sean McCormick (West Chester, PA/Henderson) (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) had the only multi-hit game for KU in the nightcap.  He was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
