WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 1, 2012)—The Kutztown University men's tennis team took down West Chester University, 6-3 in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) season opener, Sunday afternoon at South Campus Courts.
KU (4-4 overall, 1-0 PSAC) dominated the singles competition as it took five out of six wins.
Varun Desai (Mumbai, India/K.C. College) (Bombay, India/ K.C. College) defeated Connor Dunn.
Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley) (Allentown, PA/ Lake Brantley) topped Andrew Peterson in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Matthew Maguire (Centurion, South Africa/ Tuks Sports School) used 6-1, 6-4 wins over David Goldenberg.
Darren Krout (Gordonville, PA/Pequea Valley) (Gordonville, PA/ Pequea Valley) defeated Cody Leimback.
Ben Nace (Spring Grove, Pa./Delone Catholic) (Spring Grove, PA/ Delone Catholic) went the distance for Kutztown to upset Joseph Cooke, 6-1 and 7-6 in straight sets.
Steve Hlava took WCU's only singles win over
Parth Girme (Pune, India/B.M.C.C.) (Pune, India/ B.M.C.C.). In doubles competition, the Golden Rams had the upper hand. Jimmy Aridas and Dunn edged Maguire and Krout, 9-7 in four sets. Hlava and Goldenberg took an 8-4 victory over
Kenny Beebe (Landenburg, PA/ Kennett) and Amin. Desai and Girme defeated Peterson and Leimback 8-5.
Kutztown will travel to Millersville University on Tuesday, April 3 to continue its conference schedule. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
