Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University got big games from
Kenny Battle (Philadelphia, PA/Imhotep Charter) and
Abdul King (Philadelphia, PA/Constitution) as the Golden Bears defended Keystone Arena with a 77-64 win over Lock Haven in PSAC action.
Both players reached career-highs in scoring on the evening. Battle came off the bench for 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while King added a dozen points and eight rebounds.
Lock Haven opened the game strong and led 10-2 early, but the Golden Bears went on a 24-7 run to take a 26-17 lead after a layup by
Daniel Mack (Philadelphia, PA/Paul Robeson) with 6:50 to go in the first half. Battle scored eight of his 10 first half points in the run.
KU led 33-29 at the half and used a 14-4 run to open the second to put the game out of reach. King accounted for seven points in flurry, including a three that gave Kutztown a 47-33 advantage with 15:29 left in the game.
The Golden Bears led by no fewer than 10 points the rest of the way on the way to the 13-point win.
Anthony Butler (Chester, PA/Archbishop Caroll) joined Battle on a productive Kutztown reserve unit that tallied 33 points in the game. Butler scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting in the game.
Fraction led the starters with 17 points, including a perfect 9-of-9 mark from the free throw line. King was 5-of-5 at the line as the Golden Bears went 19-of-23 as a team on the night (83 percent).
Tracy Peal and
Tyler Brooks (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) led Kutztown on the glass with 10 rebounds apiece. Brooks added seven points, six assists, three blocks and a steal as the junior never left the floor, playing all 40 minutes. Fraction matched Brooks' team-high six assists.
KU stifled a team just 24 hours removed from an upset of defending PSAC Tournament Champion East Stroudsburg into just 8-of-26 shooting in the first half (31 percent).
Wali Hepburn led the Bald Eagles with 18 points, while Kasheef Festus poured in 16 and grabbed 13 rebounds. Andre Rivers scored 13 points off the bench.
Kutztown is idle until heading to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia on December 30 for a 3 p.m. tip off.
