KUTZTOWN, Pa. (April 3, 2011) – The Kutztown University men's tennis team continued defense of its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title by defeating East Stroudsburg, 8-1. Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, the women's tennis team lost to ESU by the same score.
The Golden Bears (7-3 overall, 2-0 PSAC) swept all six singles' matches en route to their second straight weekend. KU edged Dowling in a non-conference thriller Saturday afternoon. This time, the Golden Bears made sure their fans wouldn't need any heart medication as Kaushik Das (Guwahati, Assam/National Open School), Arijit Goswami (Kolkata, India/LSA Kolkata), Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley), Andrew Zhu (Toronto, ON/Northview), Cameron O'Donnell (Allentown, PA/Parkland) and Tim Roenning (Hole, Norway/Norwegian College of Top Athletes) all won their matches in straight sets.
Das was pushed in his match as he prevailed, 7-6 and 6-3. Kutztown also captured two of the three doubles matches.
On the women's side, Chelsea White (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) continued her recent strong performances by winning at fourth singles during Kutztown's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division setback. Playing with plenty of confidence lately, White has won four straight singles match in the fourth slot.
The latest triumph was a 6-2, 6-2 decision over East Stroudsburg's Amber Adams. Despite White's victory, the Golden Bears (3-8 overall, 1-2 PSAC East) saw their two-match winning streak end.
Both teams continue conference action when it hosts Millersville University Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
