WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 9, 2011) – The Kutztown University men's tennis team continued its dominance in the conference by defeating West Chester University 8-1 Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup. The women's team also competed against WCU and dropped a 9-0 decision.
 
With Saturday's win, the Golden Bears (9-3 overall, 3-0 PSAC East) will battle for the regular season conference championship next week as it hosts Bloomsburg University Tuesday, Apr. 12 at 3:00 p.m. KU is currently ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Atlantic Regional rankings and has now won four matches in a row.
 
Kutztown won all six of the singles matches, five of which coming in straight sets. KU continues to roll late in the season after getting wins from Kaushik Das (Guwahati, Assam/National Open School), Juan Gutierrez (San Jose, Costa Rica/SEK International School), Rushi Amin (Orefield, PA/Lake Brantley), Andrew Zhu (Toronto, ON/Northview), Cameron O'Donnell (Allentown, PA/Parkland) and Darren Krout (Gordonville, PA/Pequea Valley). 
 
In doubles, top ranked No. 1 Das and Arijit Goswami (Kolkata, India/LSA Kolkata) won 9-7 against WCU's Nate Geigle and Steve Hlava. Also winning in doubles play was No. 3 Amin and Gutierrez. 
 
On the women's side, Kutztown (3-10, 2-3) ran into a tough West Chester team who has won 11 matches this season. Top-ranked Rachel Grula (Drums, PA/Hazleton Area) fought hard for KU before dropping sets by less than three games. Grula also teamed up with Chelsea White (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) in doubles action and took the match 14 games before falling 8-6. 
 
Both teams will host Bloomsburg on Tuesday at the Kutztown Tennis Courts in its final PSAC matchup of the season.
