ITHICA, N.Y. (February 26, 2011) – The Kutztown University men's tennis team started its season with a 7-0 setback to Division I Cornell University Saturday afternoon.
Despite the setback, Kutztown head coach Suresh Ramamurthi was pleased with the Golden Bears' effort against a superior opponent. A match like this to begin the season; gives Ramamurthi an opportunity to see his team improve as the season improves. The goal for the Golden Bears is to win another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship.
“They were a little too strong for us,” Ramamurthi said. “It was a good experience for us and we know what we need to get better as a team. I thought freshman Juan Gutierrez (San Jose, Costa Rica/SEK International School) at No 2 singles battled and showed some nice things.”
The Golden Bears return to action on Friday, March 18 when it hosts Eastern University beginning at 3:30 p.m.
