Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) scored 19 of her game-high 23 points in the first half as Kutztown defeated visiting Lincoln (Pa.) 82-58 in non-conference women's basketball at Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears also turned in their best defensive effort since the 2008-09 season as they stifled Lincoln into just 15-of-68 shooting in the game, 22 percent. That was the best mark for Kutztown since they limited Columbia Union to 19 percent on December 17, 2008, a span of 90 games.
The Golden Bears (4-8) made 8-of-12 field goals in the final 11 minutes of the first half to stretch what was just a six-point lead into a 43-27 advantage at the break. Wood sank 6-of-9 field goals, including both of her three-point attempts, and went 5-of-6 from the foul line to lead KU with 19 points. Sharay DuBose scored 12 points for the Lions (4-6), 10 of which came in the opening nine minutes before Kutztown pulled away.
KU continued to build its lead in the second half, leading by as many as 25 on several occasions before taking a 24-point win.
Wood finished 7-of-13 shooting, 2-of-3 from long distance and 7-of-8 from the foul line. She also had three assists and three steals.
Andrea Sisson (Richmond, VA/Godwin) (Richmond, Va./Godwin) had 11 of her 15 in the second half and finished 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range.
Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) finished with 12 points and tied
Steph Zewe (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) for the team-high with eight rebounds. Both totals were career-highs for Campbell.
DuBose led Lincoln with 19 points, hitting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and all eight of her free throw attempts. Denyse Moore also reached double figures with 14 points. Mfon Ekanem grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds as the Lions won the battle on the glass, 48-45.
Led by Campbell's dozen, the Kutztown bench outscored its counterparts from Lincoln, 24-12. The Golden Bears also held a 30-14 advantage on points in the paint and turned 24 Lion turnovers into 25 points.
Kutztown finished the game shooting 46 percent, its best mark of the season.
The contest wrapped up the non-conference portion of the KU schedule. Kutztown returns to action on January 6-7 with a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover contests at Edinboro and Lock Haven, respectively.
