ELMWOOD PARK, NJ. (November 4, 2011)—The Kutztown University bowling team is in eighth place at the FDU Jamboree hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University after one day of competition.
The Golden Bears (10-5 overall) are ranked eighth in the National TenPin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 20 poll.
In addition to the FDU Jamboree, The Bowl for the Cure event will take place. Players will wear pink t-shirts and shoe laces in support of breast cancer awareness.
The tournament includes 19 of the top NCAA bowling programs in the country.
Kutztown went 2-3 on Friday, earning wins over Morgan State University (766-763) and Bethune Cookman University (754-681). The Golden Bears dropped matches to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (727-666), Stephen F. Austin State University (677-663), and Sam Houston State University (764-737). Friday's competition included five quad-Baker games.
Holly Pribulick (Wayne, PA/Union-Endicott) led with a 21.0 baker frame average through 20 frames.
Kayla Jones (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop ) had a 20.35 baker frame average through 40 frames.
Deanna DiRado (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem) finished with a 19.23 baker frame through 40 frames.
On Saturday, traditional team play will begin. KU will face Vanderbilt, Howard, Salem International, Hampton, and reigning NCAA champion University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Sunday's playoff round will be determined based on total pinfall after Friday and Saturday.
Also competing this weekend at the Jamboree are Northeast Conference schools Adelphi, Long Island, Monmouth, Saint Francis PA, St. Francis NY and Sacred Heart.
