Kutztown falls short against California in PSAC semifinals

BLOOMSBURG, PA (April 23, 2010) – Kutztown University senior tennis player Sabrina Arnaud can look back at her career and smile. She has improved and grown in four years as a member of the women's tennis team. Arnaud has enjoyed plenty of happy memories, long road trips and laughs.

Arnaud's fine career and that of fellow senior Rohini Das is winding down. The pair still have at least one more match remaining. They will compete in this morning's consolation contest against Bloomsburg University after dropping a 5-0 decision to West top-seed California, Pa. in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) semifinal contest at Bloomsburg Friday afternoon.

California will meet Slippery Rock in the women's PSAC championship match.

Das and Ridhima Borooah were tough at No. 1 doubles but they dropped an 8-3 decision against the Vulcans. Despite the setback, the Golden Bears (10-10) still have an opportunity to finish with a flourish if they can find a way to beat a Bloomsburg team that handed them a 7-2 defeat two weeks ago.

When Arnaud arrived on Kutztown's campus from Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, she wasn't used to playing with a doubles partner. An accomplished singles performer, the marketing major made giant strides to become a key component of the Kutztown women's tennis team.

“I know I improved a lot,” Arnaud said. “I wasn't patient before I got here. I definitely learned to be more patient. My best memory was qualifying for regionals last year.

Although KU's trip to the NCAA Atlantic Regionals ended with a 5-0 defeat to Slippery Rock, Arnaud cherished the experience. She won 14 matches as a junior and posted 12 victories this season.

“She hates to lose,” Kutztown head coach Suresh Ramamurthi said. “She wasn't really comfortable playing doubles when she first got here but once she started playing; she started to step up for us big time. She always worked hard in the gym. Sabrina is a kind person, driven, and self-motivated.”
