Kutztown falls to Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 12, 2010) – The Kutztown University baseball team dropped an 11-2 decision to Philadelphia University in a non-conference contest Monday afternoon. (BOXSCORE)

 

Kutztown (27-8 overall) generated five hits against the Rams (8-12). Leadoff batter Mike Kacelowicz led the Golden Bears with two hits, including a double. Mike Dugan also had a double for Kutztown. Pitcher Jacob Schnee struck out six batters in 4.1 innings.

 

The Golden Bears jumped to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Kacelowicz led off the game with a double and stole third base. He crossed the plate when James Quigley reached base safely on an error. Quigley was credited with a run batted in on the play. Kutztown scored its other run in the top of the ninth inning when Jared Frey's sacrifice fly scored Gilbert Vega, who led off with a single.

 

Kutztown returns to action Friday afternoon when it hosts Bloomsburg University in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at North Campus Field. The two teams will play again at Kutztown on Monday April 26.
