KUTZTOWN, PA (March 31, 2010) – The Kutztown University men's tennis team won its fourth consecutive match by defeating West Chester, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon. The Kutztown University women's tennis team claimed a 5-4 decision over West Chester.
The men improved its record to 5-2 overall by rolling past the Golden Rams. The women bounced back from its weekend setback to run its overall mark to 6-5.
On the women's side, the Golden Bears won two of three doubles matches to defeat West Chester. The two teams split their six singles matches. The No. 1 doubles squad of Rohini Das and Ridhima Borooah also won their singles matches in straight sets for Kutztown. Nicole Devine's victory at No. 5 singles proved crucial to the Golden Bears' success against WCU. Also winning for Kutztown was its No. 3 doubles squad of Megan Groh and Tess Wright. They pulled out an exciting 9-8 victory.
The men cruised to victory behind Jonathan Goulet, who was an easy 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles. The most thrilling victory belonged to Darren Krout in the final match of the day. He won in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 14-12. Kaushik Das, Asok Mukherjee, Arpit Sharma and Cameron O'Donnell were also winners in their singles matches.
“It's good to get a win,” Kutztown coach Suresh Ramamurthi said. “We have been working harder to get ready for the PSAC championships. We know our schedule is going to get tougher but I am happy with our effort today.”
The Kutztown women return to action Friday afternoon when it hosts Cheyney University starting at 3 p.m.
