KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's swimming team will be competing this weekend against Bloomsburg University Edinboro University and Mansfield University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quad meet at Bloomsburg University Saturday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
Led by their captains, senior
Kerry Choplin (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) ,
Allison Sheely (Enola, Pa./Trinity), and junior
Alexandra Crigler (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), the Golden Bears are training hard to help the Golden Bears enjoy another successful weekend. Kutztown enters this weekend with a 17-match winning streak after defeating East Stroudsburg, 153-100 and Misericordia, 156-98 last week.
"I'm very confident in our team," Crigler said. "I think we'll pull together and do well because we've been working really hard to come out on top this weekend."
Kutztown head swimming coach
Tim Flannery is aware of the hard work and determination it will take to finish strong in this upcoming meet. The Golden Bears are looking to build off of their recent victories and three new pool records made by sophomore
Lauren Galetto (Vineland, N.J./Sacred Heart), junior
Jordan Shapiro (Yardville, N.J./Princeton), Sheely, and freshman
Natalie Carr (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area).
"Our three previous records made were only pool records," Flannery said. "We have much bigger problems and much higher goals to accomplish this weekend against Edinboro and Mansfield. We expect the best from our team."
Crigler is one of the top veteran swimmers for KU. She is well aware of the competition she is going to have to face against Mansfield and Edinboro.
"We've been practicing our finishes and our turns," Crigler said. "We are staying focused on improving these parts of our swimming to better ourselves for the races this weekend. I'm kind of nervous, but I'm working as hard as I can so it pays off in the end."
Flannery is very proud of his team and is pushing them to the best of their abilities. He knows they are going to give it their all against their competition this weekend.
"These women have come a long way," Flannery said. "Going into this weekend, we do not want to be overconfident. This meet is going to be a tough one against Edinboro and Bloomsburg, these are very competitive schools."
