KU finishes weekend with win over Shippensburg

KUTZTOWN, PA (October 2, 2010) – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team is back on track after closing out its productive weekend with a 3-1 win over Shippensburg University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Keystone Arena Saturday night. (BOXSCORE)
 
Kutztown (14-4 overall, 4-4 PSAC East), found itself it a tough matchup early on in the first two games, but were able to pull away by winning the final two (25-23, 18-25, 25-19, 25-19).  The Golden Bears have certainly rebounded from their  loss to West Chester after winning both of their matches this weekend against Shippensburg and Millersville (3-2).
 
Lindsay Confer led Kutztown with 12 kills on Saturday. Confer has made a name for herself on the defensive side as well. Confer added seven digs and three blocks against Shippensburg. 
 
Setting up Confer and other Golden Bears were setters Kimberlee Gomber and Dana Wright. Gomber had 22 of KU's 38 assists, as well as having 13 digs. Wright added 11 assists for KU. Jamie Celia continues to be a leader on defense as she had 28 digs to lead Kutztown.    
 
Kutztown also received outstanding play from junior Erin Kissling, who had eight kills and an impressive 18 digs. Kissling's great play has rewarded her with additional playing time, including a start Saturday night.
 
Kutztown's frontline continues to have outstanding performances as it had nine total blocks. Leading Kutztown were Brianna Risch and Cait Hess who each had three each. Katie Lutz and Cali Snell also added a block each for Kutztown. Hess and Snell also had six kills apiece.
 
Kutztown will have the week off as it next travels to Clarion University Friday, October 8 to compete in a PSAC crossover matches. The Golden Bears will face Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 5:00 p.m., and Clarion University at 7:00 p.m.
