LONG ISLAND, NY (October 2, 2010) - Bouncing back from its East Stroudsburg University defeat earlier in the week, the Kutztown University field hockey team overcame a halftime deficit against C.W. Post to claim a 4-2 victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game Saturday afternoon. (BOXSCORE)
Kutztown sophomore Emily Labowitz scored the game-winner with 26 seconds remaining. Labowitz demanded authority with three shots and two shots on goal.
Imani Ferguson closed the game for KU when she scored the last goal on a breakaway, putting the ball into the bottom right side of the goal. Her tally with two seconds remaining helped the Golden Bears enjoy a happy ride home.
Kim Angstadt got KU started in the second half by scoring off an assist from Erin Reynolds. Angstadt took it from the top of the circle, 10 yards out, to score for the Golden Bears. Angstadt played a great game for KU with four shots and one assist to senior Abbey Sheeler.
Sheeler scored early for KU in the first half with a broken pass by Angstadt, shooting three yards out, sinking a shot to start off the game for KU. The lead was swept right back by C.W. Post minutes later with an unassisted goal scored by Senior Vicky DeRosa off a penalty corner, six yards out. Amy Lillis put the lead in C.W. Post's hands with a two on one breakaway, scoring wide open on the front, right side of the goal, bringing the score to 2-1 for the Pioneers.
KU ended the first half with 12 of its 23 total shots against C.W. Post's junior goalie Devon Trenkle. Vicky DeRosa shined through for C.W. Post with four shots and one goal against Golden Bear goalie Emily Falko.
Sheeler, Angstadt, and Ferguson along with Labowitz had a combined 11 shots, with eight shots on goal.
The Golden Bears concluded their road trip with a 3-1 record, preparing them for a home game versus Bloomsburg University Tuesday October 5, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
